Step back to the 1880s for a weekend of pōhili (base ball), history, and aloha.
The Kalakaua Base Ball Jubilee honors Hawaiʻi’s place as the third country in the world to play organized base ball.
This historic tournament brings together Hawaiʻi’s home clubs and visiting teams from the Bay Area — playing by Spalding’s 1886 Rules in full period uniforms.
Day the First – Saturday, November 8
11:00 AM – Opening Ceremony
- Opening oli and remarks – Kumu Anuhea Kanealiʻi (Hear Hawaiʻi), Fai Visuthicho (AVBBA)
- Remarks from team kāpenas – Matias “Butcher” Solario (Waikiki) and James “Hollywood” Stapleton (SF Pelicans)
- Remarks & proclamations – Mayor Blangiardi, Anna Cartwright, Sen. Carol Fukunaga, CM Scott Nishimoto, Rep. Della Au Belatti
- National anthems – “Hawaiʻi Ponoʻī” and “Hail Columbia” by Walea
- Pule + lei and proclamation ceremony – Kumu Anuhea
- Ceremonial first pitch
11:30 AM (approx.) – Match Game 1: San Francisco Pelicans vs. Waikiki Base Ball Club
2:30 PM (approx.) – Match Game 2: Barbary Coasters vs. Royal Hawaiian Base Ball Club
Day the Second – Sunday, November 9
10:00 AM – Match Game 3: Third Place Match (losers of Match Games 1 & 2)
1:00 PM (approx.) – Match Game 4: Trophy Match Game (A Hawaiʻi club “by right” vs. the visiting club of superior showing.)
